The Flare Gun Replacement
Post: #1
The Flare Gun Replacement
I think many people would agree the Flare Gun is a sub-par weapon for Pyro, and that another replacement would be suitable. Here's what I think could work as a replacement.

The Ember Blaster

This Weapon was created by the pyro himself, out of 3 shotguns that he taped together. The design of the Ember Blaster has 3 shotguns with their grips and triggers sticking out at 120 degree intervals, and the shooting animation involves the pyro turning the weapon around to use another one of the grips. The weapon has a very rag-tag look, and is part welded, part taped, with some wire holding it together.

This weapon does 80% of the damage of the shotgun if all the pellets connect. This means that if a shotgun hits with 80% of it's bullets it does the same damage as the projectile from the Ember Blaster connecting, the projectile being; Hockey Pucks. The combined firepower of 3 shotguns creates a very powerful knockback effect like the FaN only for the pyro.

Each of the hockey pucks exiting the "Tri-Barrel" creates a burst of wind around the pyro, putting out friendlies, and the hockey puck's incredible speed exiting the barrel catches enemies on fire for exactly 5 seconds. This is because the hockey pucks melt into a tar-like substance similar to napalm, on contact, that sticks to the enemies skin making them appear black to everyone, this also muffles their speech, not allowing them to use voice commands or call medic.

One of the drawbacks is the fact that a critical hit for a weapon is not completely beneficial. The animation for the critical hit is the typical "CRITICAL HIT!" Above an enemies head on contact, and the projectile is a white hot, blob of tar. When the blob hits an enemy it does much more damage, but cannot set the enemy on fire as it instantly vaporizes. The damage would be somewhere from 90-115. This would say, allow a spy to get away, when a regular attack would have killed him with afterburn. The critical hit rate is also halved compared to the shotgun.

The reload animation is 0.8x times faster than the shotgun animation and involves the pyro grabbing one hockey puck at a time, flipping his Blaster so the player can see inside it, and use his fist to cram it inside.

If you can't understand something just ask, because I had to rewrite this entire topic because I accidentally clicked the ad which is directly under post thread. Post what you think needs changing, and what's cool.

That sucks, Deviance probably got some money out of it though Tongue.

About your idea.. it seems so, so much more powerful than either the shotgun or the flaregun. Seriously, why would anyone take the shot/flaregun over your hockey puck shooting awesomemachine?

Hmm yeah, I kinda feel the same way as Yarr. What are the drawbacks of this weapon?

RE: The Flare Gun Replacement
Yeah, I'm going to edit in a couple of drawbacks. The clip size of 3 seems like a pretty big drawback + plus the damage reduction + all the other drawbacks I had = sorta balanced weapon.

The topic was 2x longer before I had to rewrite cause of that damn ad.

Edit: What do you guys think the drawbacks should be?

The damage in one clip is already much less than a shotguns clip, and the lower crit rate sounds rather balanced. Also, to clarify the reload time, here's an example.

Say the shotgun takes 5 seconds to reload all of it's rounds (6/5) = (18/15)
The Ember Blaster takes 4/5 that time to reload all of it's rounds, 4 seconds (4/3) = (20/15)

So the tradeoff in reload time is that the Blaster reloads it's clip faster, but each round is reloaded slower than a round for the shotgun.

RE: The Flare Gun Replacement
Ember blaster can indeed be a good replacement for flare gun. The only drawback is its availability and accessibility to the player. Also, it should be approved by the committee before it could be implemented. Lastly, as you’ve said there is still loop hole with regards to the “critical hit”.

I'm not sure if I understood any of that. Please put it into a more understandable form of English.
